This chapter provides an overview of Related Content Publications and discusses how to:
Define Related Content template pagelets.
Assign content managers to Related Content.
Manage a Related Discussion.
A pagelet that displays in the menu frame is called a template pagelet. In the Intelligent Context Manager feature, a series of Related Content template pagelets are defined and designed to display in the menu frame and provide easy access to data that is context-sensitive to the menu item or transaction being displayed.
A Related Content publication is an instance of a Related Content template pagelet. For example, Internal Contacts and External Contacts can be two publications of the Related Contacts template pagelet. Each publication is displayed as a separate pagelet using the label that is defined for the publication. You can define multiple publications for Related Contacts, Related Information, and Related Resources, but not for Related Discussions and Related Workspaces.
PeopleSoft delivers template pagelets for the following types of Related Content:
Related Information.
Use to associate content to a specified menu item. For example, relating purchasing policies to the Purchase Requisition page. Links to the policies would be available whenever a user accessed the Purchase Requisition page.
Related Contacts.
Use to display email links to contacts that are pertinent to a specified menu item. For example, relating various health insurance contacts, dental insurance contacts, or retirement fund managers to employee benefits information. Users can click the contact link to initiate a new email message or instant message.
Related Resources.
Use to associate Resource Finder information to a specified menu item. For example, relating vendor information to the Purchase Requisition page. Links to Resource Finder profile pages displaying vendor information would be available whenever a user accesses the Purchase Requisition page.
Related Discussions.
Use to associate a discussion group to a specified menu item or an instance of the menu item based on key sensitivity. For example, you can display a related discussion along with a menu item containing Human Resources information. Users can view and add topics and replies to the discussion for such subjects as medical benefits, open enrollment, and so forth. Users can participate in discussions on an instance that may be temporary, such as open enrollment, or on an ongoing basis, such as collaborating on Company News. These topics appear on the Related Discussion pagelet when the user accesses the menu item.
Content Ratings.
Use to configure single-question polls. For example, when users access a page that is being polled, they see a pagelet with a link to the poll. When the user clicks on the link, the content ratings question appears in a new browser window. This method enables the user to maintain their current context while responding to the content ratings question.
Related Workspaces.
PeopleSoft delivers one publication for each Related Content pagelet. The portal administrator can create additional publications to achieve variety in the content that is related to specific menu items and instances of a menu item. Each publication is displayed as a separate pagelet.

This section provides an overview of content manager assignments and discusses how to assign content managers, or topic experts, to Related Content publications.
Content displayed within a Related Content template pagelet is regulated and maintained according to the menu item. Content managers are topic experts who are authorized to add, edit, or expire content for specific menu item and Related Content template pagelet combinations.
Topic experts enable the portal administrator to delegate the administration of Related Content to the person who is most knowledgeable about that topic. For example, the business process expert for the Human Resources Report Time Off transaction could be the topic expert for the Related Information publications that are assigned to the Report Time Off menu item.
If the expertise is shared among several people, different publications can be assigned different topic experts for a menu item. For example, if one person manages the external vendor relationships for a menu item and someone else manages the internal representatives, you could create two publications of the Related Contacts pagelet, each with its own topic experts.
Assign content managers, or topic experts, to all menu item and Related Content template pagelet combinations for Related Information, Related Contacts, and Related Resources.
