Working With Pagelet Wizard and PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal

This chapter provides an overview of working with Pagelet Wizard and the PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal.

Note. This documentation discusses PeopleSoft-Enterprise-Portal-specific features that are available through the basic Pagelet Wizard PeopleTools only when PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal is installed.

The basic Pagelet Wizard PeopleTool is covered in Enterprise PeopleTools 8.46 PeopleBook: Internet Technology, “Using Pagelet Wizard.” Please refer to this PeopleTools documentation for information about setting up and using the basic Pagelet Wizard PeopleTool.

Understanding Working With Pagelet Wizard and PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal

Pagelet Wizard is a PeopleTool that provides a user-friendly, browser-based graphical user interface (GUI) that leads you through the series of steps involved in creating and publishing a pagelet. When used with the PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal installed, portal administrators and nontechnical users can use Pagelet Wizard to build pagelets that integrate and transform data from a variety of data sources, both internal and external to the PeopleSoft system.

The following diagram illustrates a high-level Pagelet Wizard architectural process flow when used with PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal installed:

Understanding PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal-Specific Pagelet Wizard Data Sources

When you use Pagelet Wizard with the PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal installed, the following additional data sources become available:

• Content Management.

  Use to make a Pagelet Wizard pagelet a publishing vehicle for content stored in Content Management. Content Management data source pagelets are compatible with the custom display format.

• Integration Broker (IB) Connector.

  Use to integrate non-PeopleSoft enterprise applications. Integration Broker Connector data source pagelets are compatible with the custom and passthru display formats.

• Integration Broker.

  Use to specify an outbound, synchronous Integration Broker message defined in the local database as a source for content of a Pagelet Wizard pagelet. Integration Broker data source pagelets are compatible with the custom display format.

• News publications.

  Use to make a Pagelet Wizard pagelet a publishing vehicle for content stored in Content Management new publications. News publication data source pagelets are compatible with the custom display format.

• Shortcut Collection.

  Note. The Shortcut Collection feature has been enhanced and renamed and appears as the Navigation Collection feature in PeopleTools. This Pagelet Wizard data source appears for use with the PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal for the sole purpose of allowing users to work with pagelets created using the original Shortcut Collection feature.
  
  All new navigation pagelets should be created using the Navigation Collection feature.

• Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP).

  Use to allow simple SOAP web services, defined by a Web Services Description Language (WSDL) document, to be used as a source of content for a Pagelet Wizard pagelet. SOAP data source pagelets are compatible with the custom display format.

• URL.

  Use to display appropriately sized dynamic HTML pages on Pagelet Wizard pagelets. URL data source pagelets are compatible with the custom and passthru display formats.

• Collaborative Workspace links.

  Use to create Related Links pagelets in Collaborative Workspaces. This is generally not used for any reason outside of a Collaborative Workspace.
