Understanding PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface Homepages

This overview discusses the PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface.

This video provides and overview of the PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface:

Oracle’s PeopleSoft has two user interfaces:

  • PeopleSoft Classic User Interface, which was designed to be used on a laptop and desktop.

This interface was previously known as PIA (PeopleSoft Internet Architecture).

  • PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface, which was designed to be used on mobile devices, but can also be used on a laptop and desktop.

Oracle delivers fluid pages for a variety of PeopleSoft HCM self-service transactions.

Fluid mode is enabled in web profiles. If fluid mode is not enabled, fluid pages and content references throughout the system are not enabled. Users can still access the classic versions of pages that have both classic and fluid versions, but transactions that exist only as fluid components are not accessible. If fluid mode is enabled, an additional web profile setting controls whether fluid mode is available on desktop devices as well as mobile devices. On desktop devices, fluid pages appear only if the browser supports the PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface. Users with older browsers see only classic pages even if fluid mode is enabled for desktop devices.

Homepages are collections of tiles that users tap to access transactions. A homepage can display different tiles on different form factors. For example, several of the tiles on the delivered employee self-service homepage do not show up on small form factors (phones).

Users can have multiple homepages. When users sign into the system, the user’s default homepage displays. To access a different homepage, the user taps the homepage title and then selects a different homepage from the list that appears.

Tapping a tile on a homepage opens the corresponding transaction. Most of the delivered tiles open fluid pages, but a few open classic pages.

Homepage tiles also can display dynamic information, such as the last pay date or the number of current performance documents. Personalization options enable users to choose which tiles appear on each homepage.

PeopleSoft HCM includes several delivered homepages. The delivered homepages and their tiles are described in these topics:

If a fluid page is equivalent to a classic page, then in fluid mode, the classic menu provide navigation to the fluid page rather than to the classic page.

For example, when you are not in fluid mode, the classic menu includes the path Self Service > Payroll and Compensation > View Paycheck, which provides access to the classic View Paycheck page. In fluid mode, this menu path is not available, and instead the classic menu provides a path to the fluid page: Self Service > Payroll and Compensation > Pay. This substitution means that the classic page is not accessible at all in fluid mode.

The logic that directs users to fluid page rather than an equivalent classic page is known as conditional navigation. Conditional navigation is also the mechanism that displays the fluid home when users initially access the system on a mobile device.

If a user on a desktop or laptop accesses a fluid homepage and taps a tile, conditional navigation logic will not redirect the users to a classic page. Note, however, that PeopleSoft HCM delivers some tiles that open classic pages. This is not a function of conditional navigation. The tile opens a classic page because there is no fluid version of the page. The tile functions solely as a navigational shortcut to the classic page.

Documentation for the delivered homepages includes information about conditional navigation for the delivered fluid transactions:

A standard banner appears at the top of every fluid page. The banner includes the page title and these standard buttons:

Term

Definition

Recently Visited button

Use the Recently Visited button to display your recently visited items in the quick access bar.

Favorites button

Use the Favorites button to display your favorite items in the quick access bar.

Accessibility button

Use the Accessibility button to enable screen reader mode, display a list of keyboard shortcuts, and access information on how to enable and use the accessibility layout features within the application.

Search Category selector

Use the Search Category selector of the Global Search bar to select the global search category for your keyword search. Values include:

  • Menu

Select to search menu items available to you. Menu items are those that are available to you from the Navigator menu. It is not recommended that you search for folder labels, such as “search framework.” Instead search for content reference names or descriptions. For example, enter “Deploy Search Objects”, which is a CREF label, or "definition based on worklist", which is a CREF description.

  • Insights

Select to search for Insights dashboard and visualizations.

You can enter all or part of a dashboard name or description.

You can also enter keywords to search for a visualization name that is in a dashboard; the dashboard it is in is displayed.

  • HCM application categories delivered for Global Search.

For a list of application transactions that are available for Global Search, see Using Global Search Definitions for HCM.

The search categories that are available to you are based on your permissions.

<Keyword input field>

Click in the keyword input field of the Global Search bar to automatically display search suggestions and to enter search terms. As you type, search suggestions are updated to reflect the search term or terms you’ve entered.

Note: When displayed on fluid dashboards and pages, the Global Search bar is muted and is activated when selected.

Search button

Use the Search button of the Global Search bar to perform the search and review the complete result set on the Search Results page. There, you can filter results, apply advanced search criteria, perform related actions, and so on.

Home button

Use the Home button to return to your default homepage, which is the homepage that you arrive at directly upon signon.

Notifications button

Use the Notifications button to open the Notifications panel displaying any pending actions and alerts.

Actions button

Use the Actions button to display the Actions menu.

More Actions button

Use the More Actions button to display the a list of menu items specific to the dashboard you are viewing.

Note: On small form factor devices, the More Actions menu does not appear and the items are integrated in the Actions menu, similar to PeopleTools 8.59.

NavBar button

Use the NavBar button to display the NavBar (sometimes referred to as the navigation bar).

NavBar provides handy navigation options such as Recently Visited, Favorites, Menu (which expands to show the classic menu hierarchy), and Classic Home. Users can also add and remove fluid tiles from the NavBar using personalization options.
