Set up service purchase types.

Service Purchase allows plan members to pay to reestablish service credit for specific predefined service purchase types. These service purchase types fall into two categories:

  • Service for periods when the employee was not working, such as a leave of absence.

    These service purchase types are associated with action and action reason codes from your PeopleSoft Human Resources system. Using these actions and action reasons enables the system to review an employee’s action and action reason history in PeopleSoft Human Resources to identify periods that are eligible for service purchase. You define these service purchase types and the associated action reason on the Service Purchase Types page.

  • Service that was forfeited when a member withdrew contributions.

    Oracle delivers a service purchase type for withdrawn contributions. This delivered service purchase type is visible on the Service Purchase Types page.

Use the Service Purchase Types page (PA_SP_TYPE_DEFN) to set up service purchase types.

Enter a unique identifier for the service purchase type.

Description

Enter a descriptive title for the service purchase type.

Short Description

Enter a short description for the service purchase type.

Action Reason Enabled

Select this check box if the service purchase type is for a period when the employee was not working, such as a leave of absence. If you select this check box, you must also enter values in the Begin Action and End Action fields.

Withdrawn Contribution

Select this check box if the service purchase type is for reinstating service that was forfeited when the employee withdrew contributions. When this check box is selected, the Action Reason Enabled check box is not available, and all of the action and action reason fields are hidden for this service purchase type.

Oracle delivers a service purchase type, WDC, for withdrawn contributions, so it is not necessary for you to create one.

Begin Action

For a service purchase type that is action enabled, select the action that represents the start of the service period.

Begin Action Reason

If the start of the service period is associated with an action reason in addition to an action, select the reason that represents the start of the service period.

End Action

For a service purchase type that is action enabled, select the action that represents the end of the service period.

End Action Reason

If the end of the service period is associated with an action reason in addition to an action, select the reason that represents the end of the service period.
