This chapter provides an overview of product integration and discusses how to integrate with:
Project Costing.
Billing.
General Ledger.
Grants.
Order Management.
Proposal Management.
Pay/Bill Management.
Contracts is designed to fully integrate with Project Costing, Billing, and General Ledger. Contracts does not require the installation of these PeopleSoft products; however, you cannot take advantage of projects, billing, or revenue recognition functionality unless you’ve installed the corresponding PeopleSoft applications.
Contracts also integrates directly with Grants, Proposal Management, Order Management, and Pay/Bill Management.
You can associate Contracts contract lines with product IDs with transactions related to projects and activities in Project Costing. These product IDs can represent fixed-amount, recurring, or rate-based products or services. Contracts uses Project Costing as the billing and accounting source of transactions related to rate-based products and services. Additionally, any transactions that you generate using Contracts can populate back into Project Costing for analysis purposes.

Billing information for fixed-amount and recurring contract lines is sent from Contracts to Billing. Billing information for rate-based contract lines is sent from Project Costing to Billing. Billing then generates invoices for the contract lines and sends information regarding the invoices back to Contracts and Project Costing.

You can book revenue to your general ledger system for the contracts you set up in Contracts. Contracts stores the accounting distributions to be applied to fixed-fee contract lines and transactions for rate-based contract lines. Contracts then generates accounting entries in the appropriate currency.

You can use Contracts for proposal-to-award processing. You can convert Grants proposals into contracts. This process creates all associated contract lines, rate plan associations, projects, and activities. Contracts also provides the proposal ID reference to link back to Grants.

With Contracts, you can create orders for products through the contract entry process, which in turn creates sales orders for those products in Order Management.
In addition, Contracts uses Order Management's product table to create your catalog of products and services. This enables you to use existing Order Management functionality such as the ability to define revenue splits for a product that default into a contract, as well as having one source for all products and services sold.

Proposal Management automatically creates a contract based on the successful proposal information. In addition, the project and activities and rate plans are automatically associated with the contract. Contracts also provides the proposal ID reference and links back to Proposal Management.
